Byham and Benedum

The Byham opened on Sixth Street in 1904 as the Gayety, a vaudeville house. It was later the Fulton. In 1995 it took the name Byham, and the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust has run it since.

A block away, on Seventh Street, the Benedum opened in 1928 as the Stanley, a movie palace. In 1987 it was renamed for the Benedum Foundation. The opera, the ballet, and the Broadway series play there.

Each house has a story of a woman in a white dress, seen in the auditorium. The papers have not connected either woman to a named death inside the building.
